The Reflective Clinician
A 6-Week Course in Narrative Writing for Ethical Practice and Sustainable Care
This six-week course uses structured narrative writing techniques to help clinicians strengthen ethical reasoning and build sustainable, burnout-resistant practice habits.
Each week pairs a guided reflective writing prompt with a short educational component on a specific ethical or professional-wellness theme Including: boundaries, dual relationships, informed consent, compassion fatigue, moral distress, and self-of-the-therapist work.
Guided reflection is followed by facilitated group discussion. Participants leave with a personal writing practice they can sustain beyond the course, along with practical frameworks for navigating ethical gray areas and protecting their own capacity for care.

❋ Learning Objectives
1) Apply structured ethical decision-making models to boundary, dual-relationship, informed consent, and competence/scope of practice situations encountered in clinical practice.
2) Identify early indicators of compassion fatigue and moral distress, and distinguish each from general occupational stress and burnout.
3) Evaluate their own practice patterns against relevant NBCC and/or ACA ethical codes and standards.
4) Develop and apply individualized self-care strategies consistent with professional standards for counselor wellness and burnout prevention.
